Compatibility by mopping system
This is the point most poorly explained at the time of purchase, and yet the one with the biggest impact once the robot is home.
OZMO ROLLER models (X12, X11, X9, X8, T90, T80). The roller is a consumable specific to this system: rinsed with hot water on every cycle, it wears differently from a classic mop pad and is replaced as a dedicated part.
Before buying a roller-equipped model, know that this consumable is specific to this system: you won't find it in the same aisle as the classic rotating mop pads of other Deebot models, and it will need to be bought specifically as it wears out.
Dual rotating mop pad models (T50, T30, N30, Mini). These models use rotating mop pads that are broadly compatible within their segment, with a wider range of generics available than for the roller.
Should you get genuine consumables?
The honest answer is nuanced, and depends on the part.
Filters and dust bags: generics do the job. For these two consumables, compatible versions sold by third-party manufacturers generally work very well and cost less than genuine Ecovacs parts. Filtration and collection capacity don't depend on complex proprietary know-how.
Mopping roller: the genuine part is worth it. This is the part that drives the robot's day-to-day real-world performance — effective mopping and resistance to grime buildup, especially on self-cleaning rollers specifically designed for that. A poorly fitted generic roller can degrade both.
Rotating mop pads: a middle ground. Compatible generic mop pads exist and work correctly in most cases for the T50, T30, N30 and Mini models.
